Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art on Canon EOS 5DS R (simulated)

Photography Blog has posted a bunch of sample photos made with the Sigma 24mm, 35mm and 50mm f/1.4 Art lenses on a production Canon EOS 5Ds 50MP DSLR. Among the 113 shots are 20 RAW (.CR2) images taken at various apertures and distances.

This is the toughest test these lenses can undergo as of mid-2015. Of course Sigma doesn’t seem to be worried by the challenge…

DPR: Are you confident that your Art-series primes can resolve enough detail on the new Canon 50MP sensors?
Kazuto Yamaki: I think so – of course it depends on the aperture value, but we believe that our new 24mm F1.4 is the best lens of this focal length on the market. So if it isn’t usable on the new Canon cameras, there isn’t another 24mm lens which is. We believe that our new 24mm F1.4 is the best lens of this focal length on the market. Too bad they didn’t make a 24f1.8 or 24f2.0 that matched the quality of their 35/50 brethren.

This huge aperture race is, imho, a waste. I will watch with interest how the Tamron 15-30 (@24mm) performs with the uberpixel Canon.

How’s the noise on those 50+ MP beasts?

    As always, ymmv

its looked surprisingly noisey actually, from stuff ive seen
