Are cinema lenses the next big thing for Sigma? A new patent has hit the surface for a 30-300mm f/2.8-3.5 lens. With Super 35 sized sensors, this lens would become competition for the Canon Cinema EOS cameras. In my opinion, this is a smart move for Sigma because it will bring them more business with a more affordable, yet high quality cinema lens.

I very much doubt it. If they were to produce cine glass it would be a set of primes and or a zoom range which is more common in film making. G.L.Optics do a great cine conversion

I wonder how bad or acceptable the corner performance of this lens will be when used on a ordinary FF camera? If its acceptable at lets say 50-300mm it could be a high end option for still photography as well. Possibly a successor to the 120-300 f/2,8.

Super 35 is an expensive market, the lenses sigma would be gunning for are like 50K. I was hoping they’d patent a medium format ART lens for 645.

    • SimenO

Yes, a 135mm f/2.0 leaf shutter ART portrait lens for 645 would be absolutely astounding! Both for the existing 645Z and recently speculated successor with a larger 53,7 x 40,4 Sony CMOS sensor first shown in the Phase One XF 100MP.

      • Russell Ferris

A fast medium format leaf lens would clean up! They have been making the fastest 35mm glass, why not make a proper fast “fine art” lens?
